REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA 15 KIRE VÁRSZ? Egy karácsony ünnepén századunk nagy költője, Ady Endre így búsongott: “Ma bilincses millióknak Ébnyavalyás, kinos élete gyászol, S újra megátkoz téged, Csalárd legenda, betlehemi jászol.. WHOM ARE YOU WAITING FOR On a Christmas Day, the great Hungarian poet of our century, Endre Ady wrote these lines: “Today the starving, wretched life Of shackled millions are mourning, And curse you again, manger scene, Deceiving Christmas morning.” Nem ő az egyetlen, aki csalódott a karácsonyban! Ezrek és milliók éreznek vele együtt úgy, hogy a karácsony csalárd legenda, hazug fölkentség és ál szeretet. Valljuk meg, ez a kísértés bennünket is megejthet, mint ahogy megkörnyékezte a próféták legnagyobbikát, Keresztelő Jánost is, aki a börtönből kérdeztette meg magától a Krisztus Jézustól: “Te vagy-e az Eljövendő, vagy mást várjunk?” (Mt. 11:3) Személyes életünk tragikus fordulatai, a tömegek vaksága és tudatlansága, s főképpen a mi helytelen és egyoldalú Krisztus fogalmunk az oka annak, ha csalódunk a karácsonyban és annak F e jedelmében! Nyilvánvalóan nincs más orvoslása ennek a bajnak, minthogy tisztázzuk önmagunkban, kire is várunk mi tulajdonképpen. Aki más Krisztusra vár, mint aki meg- ígértetett, az feltétlenül csalódik karácsonykor; aki ellenben az Ige és a Szentlélek szemüvegével keresi a Megváltót, annak a várakozása ma is beteljesedik, mint történt az agg Simeonnal (Luk. 2:25-35). Kicsoda az, aki jön? A Heidelbergi Káté klasszikus megfogalmazása szerint az, aki jön, nem más mint a mi legfőbb prófétánk, egyetlenegy főpapunk és örökkévaló királyunk. Legfőbb prófétánk, mert Istennek titkos tanácsát és akaratát a mi váltságunk felől tökéletesen kijei entette. Egyetlenegy főpapunk, mert minket testének egyetlenegy áldozatjával megváltott és az Atya előtt könyörgésével szüntelen közbenjár érettünk. Örökkévaló királyunk, mert minket Igéjével és Leikével igazgat, s a szerzett váltságban oltalmaz és megtart. Segítsen bennünket a mi mennyei Atyánk, hogy adventi várakozásunkban ez a Krisztus arc bontakozzék ki egyre teljesebben, egyre vonzóbb módon! Engedjük taníttatni magunkat, hogy nevéről mi is bizonyságot tudjunk tenni! Értsük meg áldozatának titkát, hogy magunkat élő hálaadáldozatul Neki adhassuk! Legyen örömünk a tanítványi engedelmességben, hogy megharcolhassuk harcunkat győzelmesen! He is not the only one who has been disappointed in Christmas! Millions and millions feel today that Christmas is a fickle fable, cheating faith, and a false love. To be truthful, this temptation is not far from any of us as it bewitched even John the Baptist, the greatest of all prophets; from his dungeon he asked Jesus himself: “Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?” (Mt. 11:3) Tragic events of our personal life, the blindness and ignorance of the masses, and the onesided, beclouded concept of our Christ-image forces us to despise Christmas and doubt in Christ. Evidently there is no other way to cure this disease hut to clarify in ourselves WHOM ARE WE WAITING FOR? If we wait for Someone who has not been promised, disappointment is inevitable. But if search for the Redeemer through the bifocals of the Word and of the Spirit, our expectation will surely be fulfilled as it happened in the case of old Simeon (Luke 2:25-35). Who is then He who comes? According to the classical definition of our Heidelberg Catechism, He is our chief Prophet, our only High Priest, and our eternal King. Chief prophet because He fully reveals to us the secret purpose and will of God concerning our redemption. Only High Priest because He redeemed us by the one sacrifice of his body and ever intercedes for us with the Father. Eternal King because He governs us by his Word and Spirit, defending and sustaining us in the redemption He has won for us. May God grant us grace that in our advent expectation this image of Christ may become ever clearer and increasingly desirable for us! May we he taught by Him so that we may be able to confess his name! May we grasp the mystery of his sacrifice so that we mav he willing to offer ourselves a living sacrifice of gratitude to Him! May we find joy in obedient discipleship so that we may be empowered to fight our battles victoriously! Ilyen értelemben kívánunk áldott karácsonyt gyülekezeteinknek !
