Viszi harangsz'avát: szivünk­be ijem nyilallik-e majd a csend, ha nem halljuk őrtor­nyainkon tiszta ércét meg- kondulni? Viszi a halál az ő erős kezét: ki fogja tartani úgy a kormányaidat, ha a hajót gonosz szelek hányják és vetik? Viszi az erős kéz gyöngéd melegét: ki fog el­esettet felemelni és bűnbánó fejeket megsimogatni? Vi­szi az ő jó szivét, a magyar, nép igaz barátjának, nagy vi­gasztalójának a szivét. Ki fog kicsinyeket védeni hatal­masokkal szemben? Ki fogja az igazságot szemébe mon­dani a világ fejedelmeinek? Ki fogja tulajdon kezével ki­tépni a galambot a héja cső­réből, a bárányt a farkas tor­kából? Eldőlt az oszlop, melyre a repkény-lelkii hitves minden érzése s minden gon­dolata fonódott. Eltörött a pásztorbot, amellyel gyerme­keit és unokáit terelgette, védte, számukra a kősziklá­ból is vizet fakasztott. Viszi zsákmányát Baltazár Dezsőt, ellenség ostorát, se­regek zászlaját, nagy éjsza­kának egyik szép fényes csil­lagát. . . — De a halálnál is van erő­sebb fegyveres. A legerősebb fegyveres: Krisztus. És Krisztus nem engedi, hogy a halál békén bírja nagy zsákmányát: ..Baltazár ...De­zsőt. Kiragadja a kezéből és tulajdonába veszi, mert az övé volt a örök szeretet jo­gán és az ő szeretete erő­sebb, mint a halál. Krisztus, az erős fegyveres, megtartja ezt a “zsákmányt” magának, ugyanakkor elosztja. Ered­ményeit átadja a történelem­nek. Példáját megvilágositva a következő nemzedék elé ál­lítja. Emlékét — megannyi hervadt szirmot — szétszór­ja siró kortársai között sírig illatozó ajándékul. Ravasz püspök imája, ál­dása után a nagytemplomi szertartás végétért és meg­indult a menet a temető felé. Hatlovas gyászkocsira tet­ték a koporsót. Az útvona­lon végig ezer és ezer siró, meghajtott fejű hive a püs­pöknek. A nyitott sir előtt Makláry Károly, az elárvult tiszántúli egyházkerület püspökhelyet­tese, mondott még utolsó' isi4 tenhozzádot a tiszántúli re­formátus egyházkerület, a debreceni egyház, Debrecen város közönsége, az Orszá­gos Református Lelkész­egyesület, továbbá minden egyházi, világi és iskolai in­tézmény képviseletében. Elbocsátó áldást mondott még Makláry püspökhelyet­tes, majd a koporsót lebo- csátották a sírba. The success of any organ­ization depends upon two things . . . lively leadership and faithful following. They both go hand in hand. A selected few are called to lead and the majority are ex­pected to follow. This truism holds good in our own par­ticular field, too. It is a moot question whether leaders are born or made. However, we are treading on solid ground when we venture the state­ment that some are born with the visible characteris­tics of leadership while others acquire them through arduous labor and discipline. Be that as it may, in running our societies we must have a leader or leaders who pos­sess the qualities and traits we enumerated in our for­mer article. After this we must place a great deal of emphasis up­on the program. This, to use as a Biblical phrase is the “meat” we are feeding the members. Whether we fail or succeed in our effort is con­tingent upon the nature of of the program we lay out. Whether you have a C. E. or just a Y. P. society, I strongly advise that you plan your work wisely and cir­cumspectly. . . at least a month ahead. Be an architect and do like he does. . . map out your blueprints. Then when you have accomplished this, follow that plan care­fully and to the minutest de­tail just like the carpenter and the bricklayer. In doing this you will find to your (Satisfaction, that you are at­taining the desired end in your work at least in a large measure. “Variety is the spice of life”. . . goes the saying. Therefore, I would suggest that you diversify your por- gram. Otherwise it will be­come monotonous, dull and boring. There is no better and effectual way in intensi­fying interest than by vary­ing and changing the themes !and topics every week. Try this method out. There are two things I want to impress upon you right here and now. One is to make your program interesting and instructive. The other, plan a lot of good, wholesome social activities. A happy combination of these two things ought to bolster up your societies. Frankly speaking, I admit that this plan is not jferfect. But I have seen it in opera­tion and I think it is one of the most effective there is. You leaders, should gird yourselves with the armour of perseverance and an in- exhausitible amount of pa­tience for you will need both. And the rest of you should be willing to contribute to the common good, if you wish to make a success of your mutual undertaking. Rev. Frank Nagy. AFTER THE YOUNG PEOPLES CONFERENCE Now that we have all re­turned to our own homes and our own churches we may reflect a little on the conference. About two hundred regis­tered officially, but we know that well over three hundred participated in one way or another in all the sessions. I wonder how many went home with a sense of the worthwhileness of the effort? Because putting on a confer­ence is no mean undertaking. Months of planning are re­quired. Many anxious mom­ents disturb the leaders be­forehand and who will say that they rest easily while the conference is unfolding? Anxious hours, sacrificed sleep, invested energies, earn est prayers . . . were they worth the conference? Now it seems to me that the answer to this question can best be given by those who attended our gathering in Cleveland. Not a single one ought to pass by this question. Everyone should try to answer it earnestly and prayerfully. Was the conference worthwhile to me? The prayers, the devo­tions, the discussion groups, the tremendous effort of speakers to open up the ti­tanic issues of the day . . . did these do anything to me? The friendships that were formed ... do they make any difference in my life? Was this conference just another thrill in an otherwise hum­drum flow of my days or has it awakened in me a desire to be better, to be different? These are the questions that present themselves ra­ther naturally. They prompt us to evaluate those three crowded days in Cleveland. Let our young people search for an answer. Let them do it for the sake of whatever benefit they shall derive from this self-examination as 'well as for the sake of what it will all mean in the life of their own church and so­cieties. Rev. Népszavazás nélkül elszakították terüle­tének 3|4 részét, lakosainak 2|3-át. Minden harmadik ma­gyar. több mint 3 1|2 millió, ellenséges uralom alá került, amely a civilizáció szégyen nére, a kisebbségi szerződé­sekben biztosított jogaikat szemmibe se veszi. x Meddig tart még a kereszt­re feszitett Magyarország szenvedése?
