Lesson: Romans 15:1-4. The apostle Paul in writing to the Romans informed them that “Whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” So, according to this, even the Old Testament was written for the guiding, edification and upbuilding of our souls. To-day, I am sad to record, there appears to be a very irreverent and even vicious attitude towards the Bible. Many people seem to look upon this sacred book with incredulous eyes; they ridicule, disrespect and undermine its values. They make a moot question out of a figure of speech, wrangle over a parabolic expression and snear upon some narratives saying they are are incorrect. To be sure, their criticisms are biased, bigotted and lacking in a fundamental understanding of the Bible. If we are open-minded and fair, we must realize that the Bible is not a book of geography, history or science. It is primarily and, I dare say exclusively, a book of principles for right living and correct conduct. The real story of Jonah, for example, has very little to do with the whale, though many people choose to look at this monstrous fish only and hackney merely this minute part of the great story. With the proper background and attitude for the study of the Bible one can tremendously enrich his soul from this book of books. And in Christian living one cannot afford to neglect the study of this gushing fountain of eternal waters, the Bible. The greatest men of the ages were those who knew their Bible and lived according to its admonitions. Rev. Fr. Nagy. O=S1I=]G]B0EH3=O KELETI IFJÚSÁGI KONFERENCIA. A Woodbridgen megtartott Keleti Ifjúsági Konferencia oly szép s oly biztató sikert jelentett, bogy ifjúságunk keleti vezetői örömmel foglalkoznak annak folytatásával. A következő konferenciát Alphán, f. évi Junius első vasárnapján fogják megtartani. A konferenciát előkészitő bizottság elnöke, Rásky József bloomfieldi hittanhallgató arra kéri az összes keleti lelkészeket, hogy szíveskedjenek az egyházukban működő C. E. Társaságok és Ifjúsági Körök elnökeinek és jegyzőinek címét hozzá megküldeni, hogy velők az érintkezést fölvehessek. Kéri továbbá, hogy buzdítsák mindenütt az ifjúságot a konferencián való megjelenésre és mert annak előkészítése mégis csak jár egy kevés kiadással: serkentsék a C. E. Társaságokat és Ifjúsági Köröket arra is, hogy az $1.00 évi járulékot küldjék be. A woodbridegi konferencia alkalmával a “Vándor Zászlót” az alphai ifjúság nyerte meg. Ők voltak legtöbben jelen. Kié lesz a Vándor Zászló ebben az évben ? . . . WHAT’S WHAT AMONG OUR YOUNG PEOPLE. How often we hear our parents say that the young people of today are “going to the rocks”— and “what will become of the future generation!” These statements are not justified. Let’s take a peek-into some of our Societies: Canton, Ohio — with its 40 young people — one of our largest Societies — are together every week, hold their own services in which the young people themselves participate. Alliance, one of our smallest groups, is rebuilding their organization and there isn’t one among the 20—23 members who are not in this campaign full-heartedly — and we’ll see that they will be victorius. Just around the corner from our prosperous Johnstown Society we sec Windber in the height of her glory — for they have almost hit the maximum point of their membership in their city. Congratulations, Windber young people, and keep up this beautiful active work! I’m proud, of our young people today, for they are showing everybody that they can build an arc building the great Spiritual Kingdom of God! In each Society I tried to point out that regardless whether your Society is Y. P. C. or C. E. you are called upon to fulfill the great mission of helping the Americans to conquer our adopted country spiritually. Let’s hope that every other Organization in my district besides the ones I had the opportunity to visit, will introduce the “N. R. A.” Contest, and profit by it as much as our Johnstown young people are profiting by it! If your Society is in this district, you received the letter regarding this contest — are you working on it? If you are, send in articles concerning the progress you are making! Accept this plan, young people, and you will be part of the Great Crusade-which is going to conquer the spirit of each young person of today!
