E. Topic for August 20. WORSHIPING GOD OUT OF DOORS. Lesson: Psalm 8:1-9. Many of our Hungarian congregations hold one or two services in summer out of doors — in God’s church. Every time I attend one of these services I come away much enthralled and re-built. I shall never forget the ecstatic delight that suffused my soul at one of these services in the open air when our song-loving people lifted their hearts to God in the enrapturing melody of that glorious 90th Psalm, “Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.” Holding services in the open air, or worshiping God out of doors, is not a novel idea especially among our own people. This practice started about at least four hundred years ago when our stout forefathers, the pioneers and founders of our religion, were actually driven to praise their God in hills, vales and other secret places. These heroic ancestors of ours were forced to worship in the open, their churches and meeting places being burned or closed up. But we do it out of choice. The custom is good and ought to be encouraged. I can picture the Psalmist of old going out into the hills for his evening meditation and exulting joyously in the marvelous handiwork of the Creator. “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained, what is man, that thou art mindful of him?” What a grand and glorious prayer! The atmosphere, the surrounding in the open air are very conducive to a worshipful attitude. It must be immensely uplifting and buoying for the crown of creation, man, to unite with the gragrant lilies, the green grass and the leafy trees in adoring the Almighty. Frank Nagy. CHRISTIAN YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE FACE OF WORLD PROBLEMS. In this article, I shall attempt to give you in summary form the program that has been planned for our Seventh Annual C. E. Conference, beginning on Wednesday, August 23 rd, in Chicago Let me say, before I begin, that the theme selected for the conference envisages an ambitious program, and at the same time covers a multitude of sins. The theme chosen by the Conference com-* mittee is the one which introduce this article: CHRISTIAN YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE FACE OF WORLD PROBLEMS.” Group discussions, apparently successful and popular last summer, conducted by capable speakers and Christian leaders, are included in the program. To this end, we have subdivided our topic. World problems will be considered and discussed from the points of view of four established phases of life: the economic, political, social, and the religious. Two session of two hours each will be devoted to group discussions. This is the gist of our program. The complete program was published in the Ref. Lapja. If there is a point or purpose to this article, it is this: To make the most of this Conference, come prepared with a foundational knowledge of the topic in its various aspects. That is why, I have undertaken the task of acquainting you with the theme of the conference. Without some effort on your part to become more informed upon the subject, the conference, in some measure, will be a failure as far as you are concerned. Newspapers, Magazines, Books, etc. will aid you in your endeavor. Therefore, come prepared to take an active part in our group discussions. One thing more. Send in your Registration cards immediately, so that our Chicago hosts may make adequate preparations in your behalf. Let’s make this a big conference by having record delegations from each member society, and by bringing constructive thoughts and criticisms to our discussion groups. Till Conference time then — So Long. Julius Boda. Duquesne, Pa. A konfirmációra jelentkezett hegy ifjú közül aug. 6-án konfirmált két ifjú egyháztagunk, Ráti Anna és Menyhért Béla.
