AMERIKAI MAGYAR REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA 7 AZ IFJÚSÁG KÖRÉBŐL. SUCCESSFUL LIVING. Every normal person is fired with ambition, possesses aspiration. In other words, whether your motives be selfish or unselfish, egoistic or altruistic, yOu by nature want to be somebody or make something out of yourself. Furthermore, I earnestly and firmly believe that especially young men and young women want to know the secret of a successful career, the undisclosed knowledge of a prosperous business, the hidden road to a worthwhile, occupation. In fact, when this consuming desire of seeking preferment, to achieve distinction, or to gain influence withers in a man, he is utterly and irredeemably done for. Therefore, I wish to accentuate the importance and necessity of having certain definite, guiding precepts when we are building our lives. I earnestly hope that you all will keep the following three simple rules of action and moral conduct. They are easy to grasp and should not be very difficult to observe. 1. Hard work. The fundamental and most esential requirement for success is hard work. There is not one single opulent person today who does not admit that the amassing of his fortune was largely due to hard work. The same thing holds true in any other branch of endeavor where merit is the guiding principle for advancement. Someone has very aptly and tersely expressed this idea in the following words: “Ninety per cent of my success was due to perspiration, while only ten to inspiration.” No man ever died of working hard, although many a premature death has been caused by excessive worry and scourging, but inescapable anxiety. Happy is the man who has found his work! There is no such a person as a born genius—men become geniuses through hard, gruelling work, perseverance and sweat. 2. Clean living. “Cleanliness is next to Godliness,” is an old and exceedingly true adage. You may not be a rich man, or a learned scholar, but you can be pure—in mind, in soul, in body. There is no reason, no rational excuse, why you cannot be “next to Godliness” in your everyday life. 3. Never take an unfair advantage of your neighbor, or even your enemy. Last summer there was a heated political campaign in the city of Buffalo. The two1 candidates were laboriously engaged in a strenuous endeavor to gain the coveted post. The usual bitter verbal tilts and vilifying mud-slinging, attendant on such campaigns, were rife. Incriminations and recriminations held their accustomed place. None of the glamor, none of the bombasting was missing. However, there was one commendable incident that attracted my attention in this political “melee.” During that arduous campaign one of the aspirants was injured in an auto accident. When his opponent was told of this unfortunate happening, he promptly, and in a manly way, issued a statement, saying that he shall discontinue his campaigning effort while his opponent is in the hospital. The following day all the city papers carried columns of deserved praises of this candidate’s noble act. Now, in closing, let me summarize these three simple rules. Here they are: Work hard, live clean, and never strike below the belt. Remember them! FRANK NAGY. Dr. Csutoros Elek. Most a hosszú időn keresztül szünetelő bánya uj társaság birtokába jutott s a megújult üzem számos magyar családot vonzott vissza a régi helyre. Philadelphia, Pa. A Nőegylet f. évi tisztviselői a következők: tiszteletbeli elnök Nt. Vécsey A. Jenőné, elnök id. Raff ay Pálné, alelnök id. Si- vák Ferencné, pénztárnok Lesnyánszky Andrásné, jegyző Illár Jánosné. — A lelkész számos egyháztaggal képviselte a gyülekezetét a philadelphiai egyházmegye missziói bizottságának 40 éves jubileumán, hol beszédet is tartott.
