“HOW SHOULD I USE SUNDAY?”

John 9:1, 13-16; Acts 20:6-7.

What is right and what isn’t right to do on the Sabbath? This question is very old, to say the least, and there is • no categorical answer that can be given which will satisfy every age and every condition. The Jews of Jesus’ day had their own answer; but Jesus laid down the law: “Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath.” This is a very liberal law, but we are inclined to make

it entirely too liberal. It is a deplorable condition

in our Magyar churches, that we freely use Sunday

for holding dances and picnics and all sorts of entertainments, very often subordinating the worship service to these other activities. I do not think Blue Laws are the best thing. We can not reform people morally or spiritually by State laws: as Christians, however, we should certainly restrict our activities both individually and as organized groups so that

they shall be in harmony with the teachings of Jesus.

The following questions may be discussed:

1. Which is more sinful? To stay up late on

Saturday night, having a good time, and miss church

service Sunday morning; or, attend church Sunday morning and hold your entertainment Sunday evening?

2. Is it right for Christian young people to

engage in athletics on Sunday?

3. If Sunday is to be made more sacred, how

could this be accomplished: by law, or by more intensive Christian tfaining?

4. In the present generation whose duty is it

to set an example in the Christian observance of

Sunday? (Bodor D.)

IFJÚSÁGI KONFERENCIA.

A Pittsburgh és Környéki Ifjúsági Egyesü- .letek április 17-én délelőtt 10 órai kezdettel tartják meg ez évi konferenciájukat Pittsburghban.

Minden konferencia célja az, hogy egymás munkáján keresztül ismerjük meg egymást s álljunk a Krisztus anyaszentegyházának régi harcosai és munkásai közé. Lelkünk mélyén ott a vágy az Isten után, örökségünk az a sok sok lelki kincs S az égfelé mutató templomok, melyet őseinktől kaptunk. Lassan bekövetkezik az idő s a fiatalságnak kell átvenni a munkát s vele együtt a terheket. Erre a munkára készülni kell! Hitre, lelkesedésre s örökkétartó reménykedésre van szükség!

A konferencia gondolatköre is az ifjúság bekapcsolódása az egyházi életbe és munkába. A két nagy kérdés: “Mit tehet az ifjúság az

egyházért” és “Mi a kötelessége az egyháznak az ifjúsággal szemben.”

Munkánk és együttlétünk csak úgy lehet értékes, ha hozzuk saját gondolatainkat, terveinket s feltesszük a magunk lelke előtt a kérdést, hogy “mit akarunk mi?” Épen ettől a gondolattól vezettetve arra az álláspontra helyezkedtem, hogy legyen ez a konferencia az ifjúságé, melyben gondolataikat és problémáikat a saját erejükből igyekezzenek megfejeteni. Mert a munkának ez az egyik oldala, hogy van-e erőnk gondolataink keresztülviteléhez s van e elég hitünk az akadályok elhárításához ?!

A Pittsburghi Református Ifjúsági Kör várja szives szeretettel a környékbeli ifjúságot. Ebédre és vacsorára az ő vendége lesz a konferencia.

Mindenkit szeretettel hívunk és szeretettel várunk április 17-re.

A konferencia urvacsoraosztással is össze lesz kötve, hogy minél nagyobb erővel tartson össze a testvériség és együvétartozás gondolata.

Jöjjetek, legyünk együtt, hogy igy indulhasson el az a kis sereg, mely hivatva van megtartani a jövendő anyaszentegyházát.

Two soldiers passed by, one in regimental boots, the other in boots of Janos’ own making. A baker with a basket also passed by. Then there came along side of the window a woman in worsted stocking and russet shoes. János saw that she was a stranger. She was leaning up against the wall with her back to the wind; she had a child in her arms and she tried to wrap it up, but she had nothing to wrap it up with. The woman wore summer clothes and thin enough they were. János heard the child crying and the woman trying to comfort it, but she could not. Then he got up, went out of the door and onto the steps and spoke to her. “Come inside”, he cried. “This way!” The woman was amazed. What she saw was an old fellow in an apron and with glasses on his nose, but she came towards him. They went into the room. “There”, said János, “sit down near the stove and warm yourself and the bay.” He went to the table and spread out some bread and soup. “Plave some food”, he said. The woman sat down at the table and began to eat, and János held the child and played with it. She told, when her hunger was satisfied, how
