AMERIKAI MAGYAR REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA 7 MEGHÍVÓ! Kedves Ifjú Testvéreim: Tavaszi konferenciánkat Pittsburghban, 1932. Április 17-én délelőtt 10 órai kezdettel tartjuk. Szeretettel hivlak meg benneteket erre a konferenciára s kérem, hogy gondolataitokat, óhajaitokat, valamint a konferencián résztvevők számát mielőbb tudassátok velem. A konferenciára vonatkozó egyéb tudósításokat körlevélben közlöm. Munkáitokra Isten áldását kéri Egry László. VOLUNTEERS WANTED! Today there seems to be an overproduction in everything. The markets are glutted, the large pool terminals are filled to repletion and every warehouse is packed to capacity. Many renowned economists — and even some of the uninitiated — consider overproduction as the greatest single cause of the present wide and racking depression. Even the word itself has come to signify something evil, and we have come to think of it as a nervewracking malady that ought to be inhibited. Yet in spite of the horrifying fact that overproduction has so injuriously affected living condition, there are many spheres of human activity and numerous fields of sacrificial labor where overproduction is entirely unknown. One of these spheres of activity is volunteer service. Whoever heard of overproduction in this field? Or which one of you ever witnessed a stampede of volunteers rushing to assist in some noble cause ? I presume many of you have seen the motion picture, “Dirigible”, or perhaps have read the book. If you didn’t, you missed a fine story and a still finer lesson. A few daring, adventurous men set out in an airplane to carry on some scientific research at the South Pole. In the course of their hazardous undertaking they were lost. Back home at Lakehurst the authorities began to show considerable anxiety for the safety of the expedition. Early one morning the intrepid commander of the great Dirigible, a close friend of the lost crack pilot, had his men line up as if ready for - duty. Standing erect, fully understanding the gravity of his planned rescue effort, he asked for volunteers -— just a few — to accompany him in a search for their lost comrades. ' And the men, not one of them flinching, stepped bravely forward and all uttered in unison, ' “I will volunteer.” And they did! The prophet Isaiah went to church one day, and there in the midst of his meditation had a vision. He beheld the Lord who was looking for somebody who He could send as His messenger to the perverted people of Israel. Young Isaiah, who later became the Prince of the Prophets, without hesitation or constraint stepped forward, looked up at the Lord, and said in a clear, inspired tone, “Here I am, send me!” And he went. My dear young people! There are so many activities in the church to which you belong. Sunday School, Young People’s Society, Christian Endeavor — they all need volunteers. They all need cheerful, willing, happy workers. Align yourselves with one or all of these activities. Go to your Pastor and tell him, “Here I am, let me do some work, too.” Then watch the broad, happy smile on his face. Don’t wait to be asked — volunteer! Step forward like a good soldier and say, “I will do it.” You will never regret it, I assure you. Frank Nagy. MÁRTHÁK ÉS MÁRIÁK. AZ ELSŐ KERÜLETI KONFERENCIA. A Nőegyletek Szövetségének élőbbvitelére annak elnöknője kerületi konferenciák tartására kéri a Nőegyleteket. Ne várjanak az Asszonyok sehol sem külön fölhívásra. Ahol teljes lélekkel kívánják fölvenni annak lobogóját, saját lelkűk ihletésére hivják össze a környékbeli Nőegyleteket ilyen kerületi konferenciákra. Egymással mindjárt találkoznak, eszméket cserélnek, önmagukat épitik, a testvériséget ápolják s az országos szervezkedést is előbbre viszik. Az ilyen konferenciákra nagyon szívesen megy el az elnöknő is, ha őt arról értesítik. Az első kerületi konferenciát Cantonban tartották meg az ottani Nőegylet meghívására, s részt vettek azon a környékbeli Nőegyletek. Dókus Gábor lelkész üdvözölte a megjelenteket s az üdvözlésre a vidékiek nevében Luterán Jánosné felelt. A megnyitó áhítatot Kruchio Antalné vezette. Bibliát olvasott Dókus Gáborné. A kerületi gyűlések s az egész Szövetség célját és eszközeit Laky Zsigmondné elnök ismertette. Örömmel vették tudomásul Dr. Nánássy Lajos árvaatya levelét. A gyűlésen résztvevők bizonyára otthon is kimondják a csatlakozást, amint azt az akroniak már meg is cselekedték.
