AMERIKAI MAGYAR REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA. 3 From the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States. A PREZSBYTERIÁN EGYETEMES EGYHÁZ ZSINATI ELNÖKSÉGÉTŐL. Az egyetemes egyház zsinatja Philadelphiában az egyház legjobb érdekeinek előbb vitele szempontjából törvénythozó gyűlést tartott. A zsinati képviselők hűséggel töltötték be tisztségeiket és láthatólag biroibölcsességgel birtak. Nem engedték magukat könnyen elragadtatni szónoklatok által. A maguk fejével gondolkoztak, a mi a szavazásoknál is nyilvánvaló volt. A különböző jelentések kitűnőek voltak és mutatták, hogy mily nagy helyet foglal el az egyház. Tanácsbizottságaink nagyszerű munkát végeztek az által, hogy megmutatták nekünk azt, hogy mik a világnak a lelki szükségletei és hogyan kellene azokat kielégítenünk. Az Interchurch World Movementet illetőleg nagyon erős volt a Jiangulat. De a hosszú tanácskozásban nem volt semmi keserűség. Mindenki nyílt magatartást tanúsított. Az egyház tagjai már tudják, hogy minő határozat lett hozva ez ügyben. Elszakadtunk az Interchurch World Movementtől, — a mint annak a jelen szervezete van. Megígértük, hogy megf» zetjük a mit nekik (korábban) Ígértünk. Megígértük azt is, hogy együtt fogunk működni az Interchurch World Move- menttel, az 1920 és 21-ik években, ha az szabatosan lesz újjászervezve. Nem ismerhetünk el magunkra nézve semmiféle tartozást, a mire nézve nem lett határozott felhatalmazás adva. Ezt a határozatot a zsinat lelkesedéssel fogadta el. Ez tetszett azoknak, a kik az elszakadás mellett voltak, — mivel igy intézkedés tétetett az elszakadásra nézve arra az esetre^ ha az Interchurch mozgalom nem szerveződne újjá. A határozat tetszett azoknak is, kik az összeköttetés fenntartását kívánták, mivel ez is el lett határozva arra az esetre, ha ujjonnan való szervezkedés megtörténik. Mr. Speers azt mondta; “ez a határozat) alkalmat nyújt az Interchurchnek az újonnan való szervezkedésre, Hogy igy azzá legyen, a minek lennie kell.” Mikor ez ügyben a végső szavazás megtört*5 naerv megkönnyebbülés szerzett, mert a mr The Assembly held in Philadelphia legislated for what is believed to be the best interests of the Church. In the long debate there was no word of bitterness. An open mind was the attitude of many. The Church knows the action that was taken. We have separated from the Interchurch Movement as now organized. We agree to pay what we promised. We also promise to co-operate with the Interchurch World Movement in the year 1920-21 when properly reorganized. We refuse to recognize any indebtedness the coming year not specifically authorized. The Assembly adopted this plan with enthusiasm It pleased those who wanted separation, for it provides for that if the Interchurch fails to reorganize. It was accepted by those who wanted to continue relations with the Intrchurch, for it provides for that when the reorganization is made. Mr. Speers said: “It gives the Interchurch Movement a fighting chance to reorganize and make it what it ought to be..” When the final vote was taken there was great relief, for the commissioners felt a great responsibility in this action. The New Era was a matter of great interest. The Assembly the principles of the New Era and expressed its confidence in the object and purposes of the movement. A committee of twenty-five are entruster with the direction of his work. The Church feels strongly that she must control her owm work and live within her income.
