How did Christ institute this sacrament in his Church? When at this last supper he took bread broke it and said, This do in remembrance of me; and also took the cup saying : this is my blood, which was shed for you. This do in remembrance of me. 38. Ascension Day, for the memory of the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ to Heaven. 5. Reformation Day, always on the 31st day of October. 45. Have we any holidays besides those that you have mentioned? Yes, we have Sunday, which day must be kept by every good Christian as a sacred day. It is our duty to worship God in his temple and sanctify that day. 46. Can that person be called a good Christian who neglects going to church and partaking of the Lord’s Supper? By no means can such a person be called a good Christian who does not go to church or does not partake of the Lord’s Supper, because such a person is an irreligious person, not being worthy of the Christian name. PRAYERS: Prayer before Communion: Father of Grace, Merciful God, whom I also can call my Father through our Lord Jesus Christ! I want to take part of this Holy Communion, which is pre-, pared for those who believe in Thee, and are followers of Thy Son. But because nothing that is unclean can come before Thee: I beseech Thee to forgive all my sins for the sake of Thy Son, JesusChrist. Purify and sanctify me, and through Thy Holy Spirit make me a worthy partaker of this heavenly table. At the same time give me assurance that all my sins are forgiven me if I come here as a worthy guest, and if I try to abandon all sins and obey Thee always. I pray Thee: receive me into Thy grace and bless me in this life and in the life to come. Amen.
