Hungarian Journal Linden Optometry - a Remarkable Enterprise The store occupies a whole street block in beautiful downtown Pasadena It is our custom to visit advertisers of the Hírlap to see with our own eyes what they are all about. So when our publisher needed a pair of new glasses, we drove out to Pasadena to do just that. Ilona Linden, daughter of the founder Dr. William Linden, gave us a warm Hungarian welcome - open arms and a bright smile - and showed us around the spacious and beautifully outfitted facility which occupies almost a whole street block on Colorado Blvd. At first we looked around downstairs where they have station after comfortable station for trying out and purchasing eyeglasses. The choice is staggering - glass showcases of every imaginable shape and size and name brand frames for the customers to choose from. Upstairs they have several offices for Accounting, Human Resources, Inventory and such. On the main floor, there are 18 exam rooms for eye exams and measurement, where the choice group of doctors do their work under the direction of the formidable Dr. Alan Limfat, OD. Also on the main floor there is the optical laboratory where the lenses are made to order. They have a huge, easily accessible parking lot behind the building, and plenty of parking on the street. They actually have a “Drive Through” window for picking up glasses. The store is large but not oppressive, bright and squeaky clean, sparkling like a jewel box. But what is most remarkable about it is the people who make you feel welcome and important at every stage of the experience. Dr. William Linden OD was Hungarian by birth, from the city of Baja in southern Hungary. He founded his optometry practice in 1956. He offered his patients convenient hours, fair prices, outstanding customer service, and a wide selection of eyewear. But that was not all. He was a visionary in his field, introducing features that were revolutionary at the time, such as offering 1-hour service for eyeglasses, and specializing in children’s eyewear. He was one of the first small business owners to recognize the importance of multiculturalism, hiring doctors and receptionists who spoke Spanish, Mandarin, Armenian, Arabic, Tagalog, Vietnamese, French and many other languages. Over the years Dr. Linden’s practice grew from one doctor to four at first. Today there are 20 doctors, 12 to 15 of them are on the premises at any given time. The store had to move twice because of City regulations, but it always remained on Colorado Blvd. They moved to the current location, which is a historical building remodeled by Dr. Linden, in August 1991. Dr William Linden passed away in 1997, but Linden Optometry, a RC. continues to serve the community under the careful direction of Dr. Alan Limfat, OD, who is now the President of Linden Optometry, a PC. All in all, our experience with Linden Optometry was very pleasant, and - what’s also important - they did a great job. My husband loves his new glasses! Hungarian Nobel winner OK after hip fracture Doctors say Imre Kertesz, the 2002 winner of the Nobel Prize in literature, is in stable, satisfactory condition after breaking his hip and undergoing surgery. Military Hospital director Lajos Zsíros said Kertesz broke his right hip in a fall at his Budapest home. Zsíros said recovery from the injury could take up to three months but it would be determined later how long the 84-year-old Kertesz would remain hospitalized. Kertesz, a survivor of Auschwitz and other Nazi death camps during the Holocaust, has Parkinson’s disease. His most famous work, “Fatelessness,” is a semi-autobiographical novel about his experiences as a teenager in the death camps. It was first published in 1975. lasvegassun.com Hírlap Publisher Julius Jancso with Ilona Linden Highest Quality Care at the Best Price!
