Gyászolják: fia Danny és felesége Becky, unokája Erika, barátai és tisztelői Los Angelesben, New York-ban, Budapesten és szerte a világon. EMLÉKE ÖRÖKKÉ SZÍVÜNKBEN ÉL Elvis-imitátor akarta megmérgezni Obamát Ártatlannak vallotta magát egy mississippi szövetségi bíróságon az a férfi, aki feltehetően ricint tartalmazó levelet küldött az amerikai elnöknek és egy repub­likánus szenátornak. A szövetségi ügyészség azzal vádolta meg a 45 éves Paul Kevin Curtist, hogy „ártalom okozásával fenyegette” Barack Obama elnököt. Curtis összesen három levelet adott postára: egyet Obamának, egyet Roger Wicker szenátornak, egyet pedig egy mis­sissippi bírónak. Az FBI szerint nincs semmilyen összefüggés a küldemények és a bostoni kettős robbantás között. Ügyvédje, Christi R. MTI Obituary Elisa Gallay was born in Budapest, Hungary on April 24, 1921. She grew up during a time of economic strife, when extreme left and right wing politics were fighting for control of early 1930s Europe. As a young, talented star, Elisa was not yet distracted by the rise of the fascists in Hungary. She studied piano for 12 years at the Royal Academy of Music, dance at the Royal Opera House Ballet Studio and music at Hungary’s most prestigious school, the Royal Franz Liszt Music Academy. Her studies came to an abrupt halt in early 1943 when schools were forced to expel their Jewish students. As the Nazis occupied Hungary and continued to persecute the Jewish population, Elisa and her mother moved into her aunt’s apartment on “Dob Utca” (Drum Street) which was within the walls of the newly created Jewish Ghetto. Although the Jews were only allowed out between the hours of 5 and 6 PM, Elisa would often sneak out after dark to search for food and fuel. She was continuously chased and shot at by the “Arrow Cross” as she raced across rooftops on her way out and back to the (relative) safety of the ghetto. She kept a bullet-ridden shoe as a physical reminder of the circumstances. Elisa and other young girls were taken out of the ghetto, daily, to clean the homes of the Arrow Cross soldiers. One day, when a torrential storm hit, she and the other girls were locked, overnight, in a window­less basement so that the soldiers wouldn’t have to deal with transporting them back to their homes in the downpour. From withstanding freezing water up to her neck throughout the night, Elisa was paralyzed when the soldiers opened the door the next morning. As others who shared her experience were sent from the basement to the concentration camps, Elisa was miraculously ordered onto a stretcher and carried - by her chosen comrades - back to the ghetto. Due to her high fever and, eventually, rheumatoid arthritis, doctors allowed her stay in the apartment for an extended period. She explains the extraordinary circumstances that saved her life with a continual “G-d loves me.” When the Russian Army advanced on Budapest in the fall of 1944, Elisa became a greater target for arrest and deportation to a death camp. The liberating soldiers continually ransacked the homes in the ghetto. They stole everything in sight - food, clothing, dishes, a harmonica, an accordion - but they couldn’t find anyone to carry Elisa’s beloved piano out of the apartment. The soldiers ordered Elisa to perform and, in an effort to appease them, she played the Russian songs “Katyusa” and “Ejejuhnen.” The soldiers, in their delight, then left the apartment without further harm. Elisa’s aunt’s husband, who was not Jewish, worked hard and arranged to get “safe papers” from Swed­ish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg (who saved hundreds of thousands of Hungarian Jews). Elisa and her mother were eventually placed in a Swedish “safe house” in Budapest. After liberation, as part of the healing process and for her survival, Elisa began entertaining in re­opened nightclubs and performing in theater variety shows and on radio. In November of 1956, she escaped the communist regime by walking and crawling through the forested areas between Hungary and Austria until, after six days with no food or water, she reached the border of Vienna. She was rescued at the border and immediately contacted relatives in New York City who sent her a visa and flew her to America. Elisa found work in New York as an accompanist at ballet classes while moonlighting as an entertainer in Hungarian nightclubs and restaurants. She married a young Cuban émigré’ with whom she had a son, Dan. She recorded four LPs and, in 1962, opened her own nightclub, “Music Espresso,” which was frequented by many American and Hungarian celebrities, most notably the Gabor family. She and Dan moved to Los Angeles in 1966 where Zsa Zsa Gabor introduced her to television personality Woody Woodberry. She was introduced to the camera at that time, when she became a guest artist on his local variety show. Elisa entered a new stage when she was persuaded to audition for commercials in 1990. She imme­diately began landing regional and national spots for products such as V-8, Pacific Bell, CVS Pharmacy, AM/PM Mini-Markets, General Electric and more. She contin­ued to perform live, for mostly Hungarian audiences, in Los Angeles and New York venues and eventually gained roles as a guest star on television series including “Malcolm In The Middle,” “Picket Fences,” and “Primetime Glick.” She was then cast as Lottie, the cook, opposite Andy Garcia and James Coburn in “The Man From Elysian Fields” and as Anya, mother to Kevin Pollack’s Hungarian mob­ster character in “The Whole Ten Yards.” Elisa died on April 19, 2013.
