Hungarian Journal Congressman Konnyu’s Voter Guide Recommendations I received a number of calls and emails asking about my bi-annual recommendations for the June 5 Primary Elections for Republican voters. So I compiled for you a list of candidates and issues about whom or which I feel comfortable in recommending. PRESIDENT: Vote for the more conservative MITT ROMNEY, REPUBLICAN, BUSINESSMAN/ FORMER GOVERNOR - Romney, the safe presidential choice, is the all but certain Republican nominee and the only real hope of stopping Barack Hussein Obama, the $5 trillion plus deficit creator. U.S. SENATE: Vote for the conservative AL RAMIREZ+, REPUBLICAN, BUSINESSMAN - The best conservative in a weak crop who will lose to Senator Feinstein in November if he gets in the top 2. While the C.R.A. endorsed businessman Ramirez, the state Republican Party supports the more moderate former lobbyist, Elizabeth Emken. PROPOSITION 28+- VOTE NO - Extends legislative term limits from 6 years to 12 in the Assembly and from 8 years to 12 years in the State Senate. Limits total state legislative service to 12 years. Every Republican organization which took a stand is OPPOSED to this extension. PROPOSITION 29+- VOTE NO - A gargantuan $1.00 per pack tax increase on tobacco to fund “research” to the tune of $750 million per year with near zero taxpayer controls on how it is spent. It is an elitist regressive measure kicking the poor and low income smokers in the wallet. This onerous measure will create an illegal “black market” from out-of-state cigarettes. STATE SENATE #15 - Vote for the more conservative JOE COTO - DEMOCRAT, BUSINESSMAN/ RETIRED SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT- No Republican candidate here so you take the best Democrat who is by far former Assemblyman Joe Coto. Interestingly, he is campaigning to improve education in a bi-partisan way and thereby solve the Sacramento partisan “gridlock”. Joe’s opponent, Assemblyman Jim Beall, is a down-the-line Demo heavily supported by the unions. They will have another run-off in November. STATE ASSEMBLY #28 - Vote for the more conservative CHAD WALSH - DECLINES-TO-STATE PARTY, ENTREPENOUR /COMMUNITY COLLEGE BOARD MEMBER - No Republican candidate here. Walsh is an ambitious big-smile bi-partisan former Republican turned independent who has strong Republican support. His opponent is Democratic Assemblyman Paul Fong whose claim to fame is a proimmigration bill that no Republican Assembly member voted to support and a highly controversial bill requiring that lesbian and gay issues and persons be included in children’s school textbooks. These two will have a repeat run-off in November. You should know that this race is a test case to determine whether a well financed independent candidate, that is Walsh, can win against a Democrat Speaker Perez financed candidate, namely Assemblyman Fong. For Walsh to win in November, he has to finish close or be ahead in the June primary. If so, look for Speaker Perez to create a $1 million plus dollar race for November similar to the one Democrats created in 2004 to defeat Republican Steve Poizner in mostly the same area with a multi-million dollar Assembly race. [This 28th district is 80% in the same area as the Assembly district in which I was easily elected three times in the 1980’s with significant demographic changes of decreased Caucasians (therefore Republican reductions) and increased Asians (and therefore increased Democrat and Independent voters)]. COUNTY REPUBLICAN CENTRAL COMMITTEESupervisorial Distric 1 (South County) - Vote for the Conservative slate: Norm Nedde#, Kerry Dunley#, Gail DeSmet#, Fred Vela#, Debra Jensen-Martinez#, and Lisa Marshik#. Supervisorial District 3 (North county)- Vote for the Conservative slate: iy Greaves# only Supervisorial District #4 (Central County)- Vote for the Conservative slate: Paria Amini#, Kirsten Williams#, Peter Soule#, Chris Mays#, and San Jose Councilman Pete Constant#. Supervisorial District #5 (West County) Vote for the Conservative slate: Deborah Kerwin-Peck# only. WARNING: Most Republican households have received an endorsement mailer asking you to vote for a Moderate/Liberal slate of candidates for Republican Central Committee named the “California Republican Taxpayers Association”. This outfit is NOT a traditional taxpayers association but rather a political slate representing mostly Moderate/Liberal Republicans. (In other words, they are using that name with “Taxpayer” included simply because it sells well with Republican tax-sensitive voters. And yes, it is legal though misleading.) NON-PARTISAN OFFICES JUDGE OF SUPERIOR COURT #5, SANTA CLARA COUNTY - Vote for the Conservative PAUL COLIN - Deputy District Attorney JUDGE OF SUPERIOR COURT #7, SANTA CLARA COUNTY- Vote for the Conservative STEVEN R. POGUE# - Self-employed attorney SAN JOSE CITY COUNCIL, DISTRICT 8 (South-Eastern Hills) Vote for the fiscal conservative ROSE HERERRA, SAN JOSE COUNCILWOMAN - This independent Democrat councilwoman is under severe attack (that means over $100 from the unions mostly for her support of pension reform now called Proposition B (see below for Prop. B) for government employees. Even the Mercury-News editorialized against the unions’ extreme harassment of Councilwoman Herrera. SAN JOSE CITY COUNCIL, DISTRICT 10 .(mostly Almádén Valley) Vote for the conservative JOHNNY KHAMIS*, BUSINESS FINANCIAL ADVISER This Republican conservative who earned a 100% grade on the Christian Values Advocacy Council questionnaire has 17 years experience advising businesses in financial planning, a level of experience badly needed by the almost bankrupt City. Businessman Khamis is endorsed by the San Jose Chamber of Commerce and a score of civic and neighborhood leaders including yours truly. The well financed Khamis has walked door-to-door most of the Almádén area so he should receive enough voter support to be in the November run-off for the top two finishers. SAN JOSE MEASURE B*#- Vote for PENSION REFORM FOR CITY EMPLOYEES - This taxpayer friendly measure would save the city treasury, stop further service reductions as well as increase city employee pension contributions, set up a voluntary reduced pension plan, limit pensions of new employees, modify disability retirement for employees and require voters to approve future pension increases. The unions strongly oppose this commonsense reform and they promised to take it to the court once it is passed by the voters. LEGEND: Whenever a candidate or issue is also recommended or opposed by a conservative organization I am aware of I placed a * after the name if favorable answers to my position were written to the CHRISTIAN VALUES ADVOCACY COUNCIL VOTER GUIDE, a + if supported by the CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN ASSEMBLY and an # if also supported by the SILICON VALLEY ASSOCIATION OF REPUBLICAN WOMEN. If an office is not listed above, I do not have a recommendation. Hope this guide helped you in making your choices.
