56th Anniversary of '56 Commemorated in Washington DC - Gala Dinner at the U.S. Institute of Peace and Conference at the Hungarian Embassy The Hon. George Pataki The Hon. Donald Rumsfeld H.E. Ambassador György Szapáry invited leaders of the Hungarian community in the U.S. to Washington, D.C. for a Gala Dinner commemorating the 56th anniversary of the Revolution and Freedom Fight of 1956 and celebrating 90 years of diplomatic relations between Hungary and the United States. Among the distinguished speakers were: H.E. János Martonyi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary; Mario Diaz-Balart, U.S. House of Representatives; Donald Rumsfeld, Former Secretary of Defense; George Pataki, former Governor of New York; also, Condoleezza Rice sent a video message. The event took place on Thursday, October 18 at the U.S. Institute of Peace, a breathtaking wonder of modern architecture. The following morning a five-hour conference took place at the Embassy with presentations by the Ambassador, guest of honor FM János Martonyi, staff members and community leaders. The moderator was Anna Stumpf, Congressional Liaison, and a very lively Q & A session followed, with many suggestions on improving communication within the community.
