Los Angeles Councilman Tom Labonge and Fire Commissioner Andrew Friedman participated in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The Parade began near Olvera Street past City Hall and ended at Pershing Square. St. Patrick's Day Parade in Los Angeles YOUNG TALENTS IN RECITAL AI FA Concert at Hancock Park Residence Members and invited guests gathered at the beautiful Hancock Park residence of Ms. Mina Nelson, Honorary Consul of Nicaragua, for a piano and violin recital Sunday afternoon. The concert was organized by the American Institute of Fine Arts (AIFA), and introduced by Mrs. Margit Arvay-Chanky. She also announced the passing of board member Jody (Josephine) Riehl. Founded by Col. Don Wells and several prominent artists of the time at movie star Mary Pickford’s home, AIFA is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. One of the original founders, Daphne Huntington was with us at Sunday’s concert, which was dedicated to the memory of her sister, Venetia Epler. Both sisters were highly acclaimed painters. Some of their works have been recreated as mosaic murals, such as the one in Orlando, Florida. Another “Life of Christ Mural” they painted adorns the facade of the Christian Heritage Mausoleum, Forest Lawn, Covina, California, and is considered the world’s largest religious mosaic. Venetia’s portraits include that of former President Dwight Eisenhower. Ms. Nelson’s palatial home, full of antique furniture and priceless artifacts, provided a perfect backdrop for the performance of the two extremely talented young artists. Pianist Kelly Yu-Chieh Lin is currently studying with John Perry as a Master second year student, and will continue doing Doctoral Program next year. Violinist Irina Sarkissian has been playing the violin since she was six years old. She is a junior at USC, studying with Martin Chalifour, First Violinist of the Los Angeles Philharmonics. The first piece was the longest and most difficult, by Maurice Ravel - legend has it, he composed it in order to outdo Balakirev, who had been known for his difficult pieces. In short, it takes a real virtuoso to play it right, and Kelly did it! Entitled “Gaspard de la Nuit”, it was based on three poems by Aloysius Bertrand, graciously recited by Irina in her introduction. Next, it was Irina’s turn to play the violin, accompanied on the piano by Kelly. First she played Chacon by Vitalii, and then an Armenian Rhapsody by Bagdassarian which, she said, probably doesn’t even exist in recording. The concert was made more interesting by the exotic birds whose cage stood in the next room. They joined in with their own version of music, to the amusement of the audience, but rather than spoiling the performance, they gave it a special flavor unimaginable anywhere else. The concert was followed by a reception, with sandwiches and refreshments. Among the guests were Gábriellé Sirigo, Daisy Gerber and her sister Erica, Gizella Korody, Michelle Katona, George Arvay, Steve Hideg, Dr. and Mrs. Ödön Király of the Hungarian Consulate General, and many others whose name we did not learn, all artistically inclined and many of them well known as artists or patrons of the arts. You who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget the wrong that is done to me, and You who are in all instances of my life with me. I, in this short dialogue want to thank You for everything and confirm once more that I never want to be separated from you no matter how great the material desire may be. I want to be with You and my loved ones in your perpetual glory. Amen. Thank you for your love toward me and my loved ones. Persons must pray this prayer 3 consecutive days without asking a wish. After the 3rd day your wish will be granted no matter how difficult it may seem. Then promise to publish this dialogue as soon as the favor is granted.
