1985. június d'ÄSäsfc. 3. oldal 2-OHIO BAPTIST MESSENGER April 11,1985 Commentary Transition In Eastern Europe Two Baptist leaders in communist-ruled countries of eastern Europe died a few weeks ago. Michal Stankiewicz, 61, of Poland, and József Nagy, 69, of Hungary died within two weeks of each other. They are the second and third eastern Europe Baptist leaders to die within a few months. Stanislav Svec of Czechoslovakia was the other. Stankiewicz had alternated for a score of years as president and general secretary of the Baptist Union (convention) of Poland. Nagy had been vice president and president of the Baptist Union of Hungary, and edited its newspaper at the time he died. ALL THREE eastern European leaders were also much involved in the SBC Foreign Mission Board-sponsored international seminary at Ruschlikon, a suburb of Zurich, Switzerland, as students or trustees. Their deaths indicates a new generation of administrative leadership is coming on the scene in these countries. None of the unions was large in number of churches arid membership. In his first report as president of the Union the Rev. Janos'VIczian emphasized the call to evangelism and brought the good news of 330 baptisms in 1984, the highest number of baptisms during the last ten years. One church, with a previous membership of 40, baptized 40 persons. The union counts 200 churches and 220 missions which are served by 95 pastors. During the past 20 years 47 new church buildings have been dedicated. Of the eight others now under construction, three are to be dedicated in 1985, including one in Debrecen. The conference honoured the memory of Dr. József Nagy who died In February 1985, and of five retired pastors who died since the last conference. The Rev. László Revesz resigned as vice-president for health reasons. He continues as pastor of the Pestlőrinc Baptist Church. His successor will be nominated later by the executive committee. The conference pledged to collect 12 million forints ($240,000) during the three year perijd 1985-1987 for a new seminary building (see EBPS 84:193 of 7 November 1984). Since the total membership of the union is 12,000 this means 1000 forints per member on average. This Is In addition to an amount of 900,000 forints collected before Christmas last year. This semester the seminary has 25 students. Only nine students can be squeezed into the present seminary building, so apartments have been rented outside the seminary. Lengyel ifjúsági napok — Több mint ezer fiatal és gyermek vett részt 1981-ben a Lengyelországi Baptista Unió által szervezett tizenhét ifjúsági táborozáson. A legnagyobb táborozást Chclmben, ebben az ipari városban tartották. A 12 napos program keretében a fiatalok a „Harc az ember leikéért” című témára összpontosították figyelmüket. A program egy része a környezet felé irányuló evangélizációs szolgálatot foglalta magában. Három táborozást a 7—15 éves korú gyermekeknek rendeztek. Az építés alatti imaházakat is úgy tervezték, hogy helyet adhassanak mind az ilyen táborozásoknak, mivel a legtöbb táborozást gyülekezeti területen rendezik. A kitelepülés és elvándorlás miatt üressé vált imaházakat tábori ágyakkal bútorozták be, és Így alkalmassá tették a táborozás résztvevőinek elszállásolására. A Lengyelországi Baptista Unió elnöke, Stankiewicz testvér kijelentette, hogy „Ügy tekintjük, hogy a táborozási programok hatékony eszközök az evangéiizálás és a keresztyén növekedés céljára. Kiváltságnak tekintjük, hogy ezt az ifjúsági szolgálatot végezhettük”. A Lengyelországi Baptista Unió 27(0 tagjával és 57 gyülekezetével egyike a Baptista Világszövetség 131 alkotó tagjának.
