The First Church of Cleveland requested that the celebration should be held at their church on the Sunday closest to the actual date, which was March 12, 1989. They invited the Conference Council to participate. The Council was sending our Bishop to represent us and asked every member of the Council to take part. JUBILEE ALBUM It includes “The History of the Synod” by The Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Szabó; an article by the Rt. Rev. Dr. John Bütösi; Quo Vadis Synod by the Rev. Dr. László Medyesy; one-page histories of our chur­ches by the Rev. Dr. Francis Vitéz; and „Előszó” by The Rt. Rev. Zoltán Király. The material appeared both in English and in Hungarian. One-thousand copies were printed. The Bishop requested every pastor to send in a black-and-white pic­ture of themselves and of the church that they are serving. VACANT PULPITS: The following churches are searching for pastors; United Church of Christ, Bridgeport, CT; Hungarian Reformed Church, South Norwalk, CT; Hungarian Reformed Church, Wood­­bridge, NJ; Hungarian Reformed Church, Colum­bus, OH. For information you may call the bi­shop’s office. 51st Annual Meeting: Our Annual Meet­ing was held at the West Side Hungarian Reformed Church, Cleveland, Ohio, be­cause our Synod was organized at this church 50 years ago. The meeting was held from May 23, 1989 to May 25, 1989. The Agenda of rutiné procedure was fol­lowed. The Church at large was represen­ted by the Rev. Dr. Thomas Dipko, Ohio Conference Minister. On May 24 Synod Banquet was held, where the Rt. Dr. John Bütösi was honored on his retire­ment from an examplary active leadership in the life of our Synod. Ordination and installation certificates were presented and the Jubilee Album was given to all present as an anniversary gift. The outgoing officers of Synodical council received gratitude from Synod. The new officers were installed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Szabó. The new officers are: The Rt. Rev. Dr. Zoltán D. Szűcs, bishop; Rev. Nicholas Novák, deputy bi­shop; Rev. Dr. László Medyesy, secretary; Rev. Louis Medgyesi, treasurer; Mrs. Irma Y. Carnevale, Synod presbyter. * The two Cleveland East Side congrega­tions merged into one. The former First Hungarian Presbyterian Church of Cleve­land, Ohio and the First Hungarian Re­formed Church finally accomplished their merger procedures. They are again a united congregation worshiping in the beautiful Landmark Cathedral styled church, The First Hungarian Reformed Church of COMING EVENTS Youth Camp. Our Youth Camp will be in Laureville, Pennsylvania on August 13- 19,1989. Program Committee of the Eas­tern Classis of our Synod has to plan the theme. The Rev. Lajos Medgyesi and Ms. Priscilla Hunyadi will hold a preparatory meeting of the committee. The two Bi­shops are responsible to ask The Federa­tion and the William Penn Association for financial aid. * September 3, 4, 5 — Church Workers Conference and Ministerial meeting for Hungarian pastors in Ligonier, PA. * September 24,1989 — The Annual Dis­trict Conference of Presbyters will be held this year in the Lorain Church. Special emphasis on bringing our youth into our churches’ inner circle. Reservations to be sent to Secretary: Edward Bihary, 219 N. Hambden St., Chardon, OH 44024. Cleveland, Ohio. The congregation was worshipping together with The First Pres­byterian Church of Cleveland and the two congregations voted to merge. The Pres­bytery of The Western Reserve approved the merger and released The First Presby­terian Church, Cleveland with its holdings, but it became final after the official vote of the General Assembly of the Presbyte­rian Church, in the middle of June, 1989 in Philadelphia, PA. They were celebrating the merger of the two congregations on Sunday, June 25th. They had a combined English-Hungarian Worship Service that day at 11 A.M. fol­lowed by a Banquet. During worship ser­vice special music was provided by an ex­cellent Reformed musician from Hungary, Mr. Kobzos Kiss Tamás. He also gave a concert after dinner. He had been on T. V. in Hungary playing folk songs on different instruments. * Dr. Joseph Piri as a token for his joy on the merger of the two congregations is giving a years subscription of 100 copies of the Calvin Herald to the newly merged church. * Helen F. Daróczy, the widow of Rev. Mathias Daróczy — former Synod Presi­dent and pastor of West Side Hungarian Reformed Church — entered into Life. Memorial Service was held in the Cleve­land West Side church conducted by the Rev. Aaron Elek on Sunday, July 2, 1989. September 17, 1989 — The New Bi­shop’s Solemnization of Installation will be held in Lorain, Ohio. The Calvin Synod Conference of The United Church of Christ on May 25, 1989, on its 51st Annual Meeting, duly elected The Rt. Rev. Dr. Zoltán D. Szűcs as its new Bishop. At the close of this meeting he and the new officers of the Synod were sworn in. In accordance with the practice of The Hungarian Reformed Church, Service of Solemnization of his Installation is set for September 17, 1989 at 4:30 p.m., where alongside with our Synod the Presiding Bishop of The Hungarian Reformed Church from Hungary, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Elemér Kocsis, The Bishop of The Hunga­rian Reformed Church in America, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Andrew Harsányi, and the UCC Executives will also take part. This celebration is with Holy Communion. At 6:30 p.m. a banquet will follow with a traditional Hungarian dinner.
