Matters on the agenda included: Greetings to the Reverend Dr. Joseph H. Evans, new President of the United Church of Christ. The 11th General Synod will be held at the Washington Hilton, Washington, D.C. from July 1 to 5, 1977. Synod nominations, issues, priorities, etc. were discussed, with the Rev. John Szilvasy participating. Personnel Matters The Rev. Stephen Szőke was elected pastor of our Dayton church on Novem­ber 7, 1976. The Rev. John Vincze was transferred to the Suffolk Association. Dr. Joseph Piri and Dr. Arthur Ludwig made extensive trips to Europe. Congregational Matters The Uniontown, Pa. church wishes to be dissolved. Still vacant churches: Columbus, Ohio; Coatesville, Pa.; also Lakeland, Fla., Wharton, N.J., Niles, Ohio, Warren, Ohio, in the Presbyterian fellowship. Youth Camp The Rev. Arthur Antal, on behalf of the Youth Work Committee, reported that the camp is scheduled for August 7-13 at Camp Laurelwood, Pa. Theme: -When Will the World End?” Flyers will be mailed in February, deadline for registration: July 15. Council approved the plans. Diaspora Work The situation in Uruguay Argentina, Brazil, Australia, Rumania, Germany, Belgium and Austria was surveyed, publishing information on South Amer­ica approved, Synod appeals for 1977 defined. Retreats Both the Western (March 21-22) and the Eastern (March 25-26) retreats will deal with problems in our Sunday School, the renewal of our Synod, and “the revealing of our feelings.” Calvin Synod Herald The resignation of the Rev. Francis Vi­téz, Editor, was accepted as of Jan­uary 1, 1977. The Council asks the Classes to consider the problem of CSH as to its content, ministry, needed changes, finances, etc., in order to make proper preparation for the election of a new editor at the Synod meeting. Ap­plications for the position, containing qualifications and past experience, should be sent to the Bishop’s office not later than April 1, 1977. Nominat­ing Committee is herewith notified to address itself to this matter. Acting Editor The Synodical Council appointed the Rev. Andrew Hamza to serve as an act­ing editor of the January-February and the “March-April” issues. The Installation of the Rev. Tibor Petróczy as pastor of the Magyar United Church of Christ in Elyria, Ohio, took place on January 9, 1977. Bishop Butosi preached the English sermon, the Rev. Béla Bacsó the Hungarian one, the Rev. J. Wagner, As­sociation Minister conducted the instal­lation. Refugees in Austria and Italy are in great need of sponsors. Pastors and congregations are urged to contact Ms. Shirley Nichols, Committee on Human Develop­ment, UPCUSA, Room 1268, 475 River­side Drive, New York, N.Y. 10027 (phone: 212-870-2465 — you may call collect!), or the Rev. Dr. Arthur Lud­wig, our Synod’s special assistant in this matter, who is also ready to help. Blanket Bonding Insurance is offered by the UC Board for Home­land Ministries to all UCC churches. The cost for a $10,000 bond, less a small deductable, covering both em­ployees and volunteers, is just $3.00 per year. All a church need do to enroll in the program is to (a) complete an Au­dit Form; and (b) send it with a $3.00 check payable to the UCBHM Bonding Program, attention: Ms. Ruth Bethell, 287 Park Avenue South, New York, N.Y. 10010. Audit Form is available in the Bishop’s office. The Wallingford Church was visited by the Bishop on January 17, 1977. After the examination of the books, he met the Consistory and discussed several pertinent problems re­lated to congregational matters and syn­odical issues with them. It was an edifi­cation “from faith to faith.” Annual Reports All pastors are asked to mail a copy of their annual reports (Year Book of the congregation) to the Bishop’s of­fice. On the Sick List The Rev. Kalman Csia (Nov. 22), and the Rev. Joseph Kecskemethy (Dec. 15) underwent open heart surgeries; Mrs. Elizabeth Nitsch was also operated on. Mrs. Arpad Beretz was also hospitalized just before Christmas. Pray for them! The Funeral of Paul Demjen, Chief Elder of our New York church took place on Decem­ber 27. May God comfort the bereaved ones! The Rev. Eugene Rúzsa died at the age of 78 on January 4, 1977. Pastor Rúzsa served for half a century Hungarian churches associated with the Presbyterian Church in Canada. From 1942 to 1969 he was the pastor of the Hamilton, Ontario congregaticn. In 1936, he was instrumental in the founding of the Canadian Hungarian Federation which he has headed as president until 1952. His publications included “The History of Hungarians in Canada.” May this kind, veteran servant of the Lord receive his crown in the House of Many Mansions! "Down in Villa Park" a book by Mrs. Magdalene Havadtoy on Hungarians in Fairfield, was pub­lished last December.
