2 CALVIN SYNOD HERALD Official Communications MY CHRISTMAS GIFT was a letter from Buenos Aires, Argentina. The pastor of this struggling congregation, Rev. Imre Szabó — who himself recently lost his right kidney in a critical operation — informed me that they were forwarding $90 for the Transylvanian Relief Fund. “The action continues and we’ll forward what comes in,” he wrote. “Of course, in amount it is symbolic, but in spirit it is real...” Thus we received $90, and then, through Bishop Beky, another $50... 0, what a gift! It reflects the Macedonian attitude: “Their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of liberality on their part. For they gave... beyond their means, of their own free will, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints...” (2. Cor. 8:2-4)... This is the Spirit of Christ, and my fervent prayer for the New Year is that as WE hear the need of others, we may respond with the same compassion, liberality and free will! ... TREASURERS: submit mission giving and administration quota no later than JANUARY 15, 1978 to Synod Treasurer Zoltán Király. (As a matter of fact, Synod administration quota is due before Jan. 1, $3.00 per member, and membership determined on voting rights in the local congregation!) THE 1977 YEAR BOOK REPORTS — mailed to pastors with these NEWS — must be returned to the Bishop’s Office NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 1, 1978. In filling out the forms, the following points must be kept in mind: Please, TYPE information on forms! IN MEMBERSHIP REPORT, implement the Synod’s resolution which states: “Each congregation should submit its voting membership list to the Bishop Office not later than Feb. 1st of each year; this list will be considered as reported membership on all official forms of Synod and denomination.” (XXXIV-3, LXI-11/77) OUR DAYTON, OHIO CHURCH celebrated their Diamond Jubilee on Nov. 13. About 100 persons heard the Bishop preach, and about 600 people filled the hall for the jubilee banquet. Pastor Stephen Szőke prepared a pictorial directory of the church for the occasion. Congratulations! OUR NEW YORK 69TH STREET CHURCH also celebrated on Nov. 27: commemorated the Bacsó brothers, the 125th anniversary of the Rev. Gideon Acs’ attempt to establish the first Hungarian Ref. Church in America, and especially the completion of several years’ renovation program culminating in the total remodeling of the Kossuth Hall. Bishop Butosi extended the congratulations of the Synod. YOUTH CAMP PREPARATION was made in Bridgeport, Ct. on Nov. 25 with the participation of Eastern Classis pastors and youth. It was agreed to have the camp from July 30 to Aug. 5, 1978 at the Pitt Presbyterian Camp (near Ligonier, Pa.) on the theme of “How to Be a Christian in Today’s Society?” In order to provide wholesome atmosphere it was also decided to mail the revised regulations in advance to all campers and their parents. These rules include age limits for campers and counselors, limitation of all visitors except parents,' and signing the declaration that any person acting in an un-Christian manner will be sent home. We look forward having the best conference yet... AT THE INSTALLATION of Pres. Avery Post on Dec. 4, 1977. Deputy Bishop D. D.
